Have you thanked Him?
Have you praised Him?
Have you made it your priority to agree and cooperate with Him today?
Have you taken that deep breath and listened for what He has for you today?
1 Timothy 2:1 (The Message)
1-3The first thing I want you to do is pray. Pray every way you know how, for everyone you know.
Several of you have talked to my wife Beth (who by the way I have been married to 26 years today) and have heard that she often “hears” from GOD when she is in the shower.
This is true.
Don’t question it or raise your eyebrow.
Some of the most amazing revelation and directional counsel for our family and her life have come with a load of shampoo on her hair or in “mid-loofa” scrub.
In fact I get a little jealous.
I don’t have those “moments” when I sense the LORD is actually intervening or speaking to me like she does. Mind you, GOD will “remind” and “correct” me often through various means, but rarely do I have these “revelatory” one on one moments.
Yet last night I am in bed and for those who know me that was “early”. My past indiscretions have left my brain to “stay on” even when my body decides to sleep. So in order to “sleep well”, I need to keep the TV on. Rarely do I hear it until about 4 or so when it is time to get up, but this morning about 1:25am GOD woke me up to Joyce Meyer “chastising” me.
He did.
And I have to say, “Thanks GOD.”
GOD through Joyce reminded me that GOD never once has asked me to “be busy”; GOD instead wants me to BE FRUITFUL.
Ouch.
This is on the heels of one of my top 5 busiest days for September!
So again I say, “Thanks GOD. Really, I love correction at 1:25am!"
And as Joyce was beating me about the head and shoulders, she shared two POWERFUL reminders.
Ephesians 5:15 (AMP)
Look carefully then how you walk! Live purposefully and worthily and accurately, not as the unwise and witless, but as wise (sensible, intelligent people), Making the very most of the time [buying up each opportunity]…
Colossians 4:5 (AMP)
Behave yourselves wisely [living prudently and with discretion] in your relations with those of the outside world…making the very most of the time and seizing (buying up) the opportunity.
I won’t lie to you. I am “busy”.
But sometimes in my busyness I “miss my mission”. My mission is NOT to just “get things done or check a few boxes”. No. My (and your) mission is relationships; it is people.
Both of these passages remind us to make the most of EVERY OPPORTUNITY (buying up every opportunity it says) in our relationships. Joyce reminds us that those are opportunities to “demonstrate” Christ; share HIS love and HIS truth. If in the course of those interactions we help in a practical way that is the “bonus” not the mission.
All of us are to share the LOVE of GOD with all we encounter. The objective is to have those we meet know we are CHRISTIANS by our love, compassion and heart. And if along the way we can help with a cheeseburger or a night out of the cold that is the gravy on that biscuit “so to speak.”
So I am coming clean a little this morning.
I am guilty of “missing my mission” more than most I am sure.
The chaos and true intensity of “doing my job” often clouds my real purpose. I don’t know if this happens to you as well. I pray it doesn’t.
But if you also suffer from the “bug of busyness” as let’s both listen to GOD through Joyce and remember our mission today.
1 Corinthians 14:1-2 (MSG)
Go after a life of love as if your life depended on it—because it does. Give yourselves to the gifts God gives you. Most of all, try to proclaim his truth.
There you go. Love others. Share truth.
Joyce has a lot more if you wish to delve in.
Have a blessed day!
I love you all
