A LITTLE MORE HOMEWORK TO DO

Have you thanked Him?
Have you praised Him?
Have you made it your priority to agree and cooperate with Him today?
Have you taken that deep breath and listened for what He has for you today?
1 Timothy 2:1 (The Message)
The first thing I want you to do is pray. Pray every way you know how, for everyone you know.

…you gotta hang in there till the whole story ends
Cause we all have a little more homework to do…”
from “A Little More Homework To Do”, 13 the Musical…

I pulled this little segment of a lyric from a song from the musical my son Ian was a part of over the weekend.  It is a cute (albeit sometimes a little risky) show about a young man turning 13 and preparing for his "Bar Mitzvah".

And like most shows, not much goes to plan.  There is an unexpected divorce of his parents, a new town, new friends, new mistakes, new lessons to be learned, you know ADOLESCENCE for most of us.

Yet as the all the dust settles like usually happens in musical theater, there is a little lesson amid the chaos, the songs, the jokes, the dances and the funny.

And for EVAN the main character his lesson was that despite his religious traditions and upbringing and despite that at 13 he was expected to become “a man”, there was still quite a bit of growing and learning still to do; a little more homework.

And it was that little line caught my attention.
“WE ALL HAVE A LITTLE MORE HOMEWORK TO DO”

Man, oh man is that not the truth?

Even Einstein said,
growth should commence at birth and cease only at death.
― Albert Einstein

So, all of us must hang in there until the story ends.
We do.
GOD is at work in our lives on a moment by moment basis.
Each day there is new learning, new lessons, and new homework.

And as Evan was singing on Friday night it made me think of the Apostle Paul when he penned…

I'm not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don't get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I've got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward - to Jesus.
I'm off and running, and I'm not turning back.
Philippians 3:12-14 (MSG)

Friends when we stop learning, when we stop listening, when we stop achieving and striving we become stagnant and we all know what happens to stagnant water right?
It starts to sour.
So, do we.

Therefore, let’s take a little page from Evan Goldman, budding and “Bar Mitzvahed” 13-year-old and keep hanging in there until the story ends.
Let’s resolve to keep our eye on the GOAL; Jesus.
Let’s never become stagnant or complacent.
Let’s keep things moving forward.
Because whether you are 13, 31 or 81…

“we all have a little more homework to do!”

Have a blessed day!
I love you all!
