THE BATTLE IS REAL (5.29.2015)

Have you thanked Him?
Have you praised Him?
Have you made it your priority to agree and cooperate with Him today?
Have you taken that deep breath and listened for what He has for you today?
1 Timothy 2:1 (The Message)
1-3The first thing I want you to do is pray. Pray every way you know how, for everyone you know.
Tragic day yesterday.
Calling hours for one of ours. I baptized her. I baptized her kids.
Such promise.
Such possibility.
Snuffed by a tainted needle.
Done in by a fentanyl-laced concoction fraudulently posing as heroin.
My wife the nurse practitioner, oncology specialist and palliative care expert often comes home after another TOUGH day of “end of life” scenarios and family discussions saying, “I hate cancer.”
Similarly, “I hate heroin.”
Pray for her kids.
Pray for the mom whose vacant and confused eyes told a deeply sad story.
Pray for the friends and family who when I looked around the room were equally zombified in a hopeless vacuum of confusion, anger, and loss.
And I am sorry if this is a little “Delaney-downer” today.
Forgive me.
But I share the story as a wake up today my friends. We are in a battle. The enemy is real. The BATTLE is real. The enemy hates us. The enemy wants you lifeless in a casket too. Don’t believe me read John 10:10 again.
So right now, first thing in the morning, it is a good time to “armor up”.
Ephesians 6:11-18 (NIV)
Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying…
Take that last verse seriously!
Keep on praying my friends. Don’t stop.
“If you do not pray, you easily become a prey!” ― Pedro Okoro
Be alert.
1 Peter 5:8 (V)
…stay on guard. Your enemy the devil is prowling around outside like a roaring lion, just waiting and hoping for the chance to devour someone.
He devoured my friend.
BUT THE GOOD NEWS he STILL DIDN’T WIN.
She knew CHRIST.
And while addiction and the enemy did their best, they could not change this promise!
Romans 8:1(Phillips)
No condemnation now hangs over the head of those who are “in” Jesus Christ. For the new spiritual principle of life “in” Christ lifts me out of the old vicious circle of sin and death.
I am so GRATEFUL for that hope! I am so glad my friend was “in” Jesus.
And I do know this is “covered ground” my friends. I know this is familiar DISPATCH territory. But I am taking it seriously today.
For while yesterday was a sobering reminder of the fragility of life, I don't walk in fear today. Rather I am going to armor up and remember…
“The authority that God has given you over Satan is ample, wide-ranging, thorough, all embracing” - Okoro
That verse from John 10:10 confirms that as well!
Have a blessed weekend.
I love you all
